Transportation leader

Siemens Mobility is one of the leading international suppliers to the railway industry. As single-source provider and system integrator, Siemens combines in its business segments Rail Automation, Electrification, Mass Transit, Locomotives, Trains, Turnkey Systems and Integrated Services Divisions all the expertise necessary to cover the spectrum from operating control systems and traction power supplies to rolling stock for mass transit, regional and main line services as well as comprehensive experience in project management and forward-looking service concepts.

We take a balanced, holistic approach to rail-based mobility --from mass transit to regional to main line services for people and goods. We have positioned our product portfolio to meet the needs of transportation and logistics operators throughout the world. The Siemens portfolio can also directly impact some 26 gigatons of the total 44 gigatons of CO2 equivalents. As the need to create liveable and  sustainable cities grows, transporting freight and passengers efficiently, like on rail, is a more environmentally-friendly form of mobility.

Population growth and urbanization are resulting in a constantly growing demand for the mobility of people and goods. Climate change demands action particularly in the field of transport and traffic, since this sector generates about 20% of climate-damaging emmissions worldwide. (source: UN)

To meet these challenges, Siemens has been providing mass transit solutions for North America for more than 20 years and is the nation's leading manufacturer of light rail vehicles. Two vehicle platforms are built at Siemens light rail manufacturing facility in Sacramento, CA: a high-floor vehicle (SD160 and SD460) and a low-floor vehicle (SD660 and S70). Siemens also supplied a self-propelled diesel light rail vehicle or diesel multiple unit (DMU) for commuter rail and has provided heavy rail vehicles for Boston and Puerto Rico.

Infrastructure

Siemens has the capabilities to implement complete electrification solutions from a single source and as energy management becomes increasingly important for cost effective and sustainable operation of railway systems, the conversion of braking energy into electric current that can be reused after a time delay is only one of the many new solutions Siemens has to offer in the area of rail traction electrification.

Automation and communication components of transportation systems are transforming the way America moves. Siemens provides software and communication infrastructures to provide train operators and passengers with real-time information to be proactive about making daily decisions for transportation needs. Rail automation provides seamless and expandable innovations for complex rail systems.
