The OGD is an Optical guidance device that enables a vehicle to automatically follow the trajectory indicated by markings on the road surface. It acts on the vehicle steering system, whilst the driver controls acceleration and braking and continues to monitor the lane. The picture of these markings is read by a video camera that is located at the front of the vehicle; it is then analyzed in order to determine the difference between the actual trajectory and the reference trajectory. A servomechanism, which consists of a torque motor, acts on the steering column in order to cancel out this difference.
Optical guidance system benefits
reduces line cost reduces
reduces the width of the traffic lane compared with manual driving, with high safety levels
reduces works time (in particular, by considerably limiting deviations of water, gas and electricity networks, …), and therefore minimizes disturbance for residents
builds the infrastructure progressively or puts the system in operation before all the layouts are fully completed
