The speckle correlation speed sensor (or odometer), is a contactless speed and movement measurement system satisfying the new constraints following gradual generalization of integral adhesion type rolling stock (i.e. rolling stock with no free axle). It is meant to replace the systems based on a wheel rotation when no free axle is available.
It is secured under the bogie, perpendicular to the rail which makes it not sensitive to the track specificities and to the environment (air lines or lines in tunnels, ballast or concrete tracks, climatic conditions).
Its principle, based on the correlation of interference networks, ensures a high accuracy (better than that of a phonic wheel fixed on a free axle) while maintaining the safety of each measurement.
Osmes benefits
Stand alone device independent from the rolling stock and consequently compatible with all types of train control systems.
No calibration is needed.
High accuracy.
SIL 4 safety level even when the configuration is not redundant. (mono sensor)
Detection of trains at a standstill and of trains traveling direction.
