With the Trainguard VT 1.0/1.5-ETCS test and demonstration train, Siemens is making a major contribution to the practical trials of ETCS. Besides the ETCS trial runs on tracks equipped with either ETCS Level 1 or ETCS Level 2 depending on the rail operators' needs, the ETCS functionality can be demonstrated from the driver's viewpoint on line on the active ETCS displays and, at the same time, the view of the line followed using cameras mounted in the traction unit. Thus invited specialists are even able to share the experience of seeing ETCS in operation and what it involves from the driver's viewpoint. For representing all the information, the presentation room, equipped with four flat screens and a multimedia system, offers optimal space for groups of up 25 people. The multimedia system can also be used to play back all kinds of CD and DVD recordings, as well as to give short individual presentations using the laptop connection. In addition to the almost daily ETCS test runs, well over 80 demonstration runs for specialist German and international guests have taken place since the train was commissioned in May 2003, among them the inaugural runs for the start of ETCS series trials on July 7, 2003 with the DB Rail Managing Board and for the UIC Conference in Leipzig on December 11, 2003. The test and demonstration train is to be available in future not only for ETCS projects in Germany, but also for applications of interested network operators internationally on request. Hence, the test train has been in successful operation in the Netherlands and Switzerland for several ETCS cross-runs since February 2005. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.
