The Asiarunner platform was specially developed for the many special features of the markets in Asia, Africa, South America and Australia. Powered by a diesel-electric traction system, the locomotive is characterized by its highly flexible concept, which accommodates a large number of structure clearance gauges and the required low axle loads. Its remarkable economic efficiency is achieved by the use of modern diesel engine technology, which provides the same power as conventional engines but consumes less fuel.

AR15 VR for Vietnam Railways Vietnam Railways was the first customer for the new Asiarunner, ordered 16 locomotives of this platform in 2006. The six-axle locomotives will be used for passenger and freight services on the main Hanoi – Da Nang – Ho Chi Minh City route. The meter-gauge line has one track with passing loops and runs next to the China Sea. The topographically difficult route rises to up to 500 m above sea level and, in parts, has curve radii of only 97 m. more
