Siemens has been given an order to supply 20 type M1 five-car metro trains for the metro in Prague. Representatives of Siemens Czech Republic and the Prague metro operator Dopravni podnik signed the relevant contract in the Czech capital today. The volume of this order, for which Siemens is responsible as general contractor, is worth more than EUR100 million.
The contract finalized today follows up an order placed in the year 1995. At that time, a consortium consisting of Siemens, Bombardier and the Czech rolling stock manufacturer CKD, had received the order to supply 22 M1 trains, which have been delivered in the meantime. The metro units ordered today are identical to that first series.
The new trains will be manufactured by the Siemens AG subsidiary, Siemens SKV in Prague. The first train will be delivered in the first quarter of 2003, the whole order will be delivered in the last quarter of 2004.
