As of January 2003, Siemens Transportation Systems will attend to complete maintenance of the 13 locomotives of type EG 3100 operated by Railion Denmark. A notable feature of the contract is Mobile Service, which allows repairs and minor maintenance of the locomotives - used in cross-border goods transportation - outside Denmark too.
Mobile Service for the EG 3100 - a six-axle multisystem Siemens locomotive from the second generation of the EuroSprinter family - also covers Railion Denmark goods traffic via the Öresund crossing to Sweden and to Germany as well. The benefits to Railion Denmark of the service, which Siemens TS provides jointly with various partners, are improved flexibility and availability of its fleet. With this contract, running initially for five years and comprising an option for a sixth year for Full Maintenance, Siemens is reacting to a market currently experiencing major internationalization of rail-bound freight transportation. Siemens therefore also offers such service for its other multisystem locomotives that can operate across borders. These include the locomotives of the ranges Rh 1116, BR 182 and BR 189.
The contract for the order from Railion Denmark, worth around € 7.5 million (depending on kilometers traveled) was signed on September 24, 2002 in Berlin. Railion Denmark is the Danish national company of the Railion group, which together with DB Cargo and Railion Benelux is Europe´s largest provider of rail freight transport.
