Strategically important order placed by Canadian National: Siemens to supply new operations control system to renowned Canadian railroad

Siemens is to supply a new operations control system to the renowned Canadian railroad Canadian National (CN). This system will control and monitor all rail operations on the 12,000 kilometers of CN track which carry more than 300 trains every day. This order is the breakthrough for Siemens operations control technology for long-distance traffic on the North American market.

Forty-six operator consoles at CN’s traffic control center in Montreal will be equipped with the new operations control system. The joint development activities are to be completed by 2004, with system installation following by the end of 2005. CN wants to use this new system to further expand its position as leading North American railroad in terms of quality and safety standards. At the same time it is introducing the Siemens operations control system to make definite improvements in productivity.

Siemens TS beat the competition with a system solution combining service-proven standard hardware and software components. The project is to be realized with CN in the context of a relationship based on partnership. The Siemens scope of supply ranges from development and implementation of the system to the performance of a number of services.
