Salzburg: First Dispolok locomotive handed over in Austria

LogServ receives Eurosprinter ES 64 U2 electric locomotive

Siemens Dispolok GmbH handed over a Eurosprinter type ES 64 U2 electric locomotive to the private Austrian rail railroad Logisitik Service GmbH (LogServ) in Salzburg. This is the first Siemens rental locomotive to be used in Austria

LogServ will initially use the electric locomotive to train its own personnel. At the end of the year a total of two Dispolok locomotives are to be deployed in the regular service of hauling lime trains from the lime works in Steyrling to the steel mill in Linz. About 2,000 metric tons of quicklime and limestone are transported daily on the approximately 70-km-long route.

LogServ was established in April 2001 as a subsidiary of the Austrian steel group Voest-alpine. The first privately operated railroad in Austria, LogServ is certified to operate as a railway service provider on the country's standard-gauge main and short lines and is also the first private operator in Austria to have hauled unit freight trains on the public railway network.
