Siemens Transportation Systems (TS) has received an order for 44 Railjet trains from Austrian Federal Railways. The order value amounts to approximately 540 million euros. This is the largest order that Siemens AG Austria has received in the last ten years. The additional 44 Railjets mean that Austrian Federal Railways will have a fleet of 67 Railjet trainsets. The first of these trains will be used in international service from 2010 onwards.
Twenty-three of these premium-class trains with speeds of up to 230 km/h were ordered in 2006. These comfortable trains fulfill all the requirements for international high-speed transportation. Their engineering is based on the tried-and-tested Intercity trains from Siemens.
The trainsets, which are being produced at the moment, consist of a driving trailer car and six intermediate cars made of steel. The Railjets will be driven by Siemens Taurus locomotives. A Railjet trainset is 185.5 m long and 205 m with the locomotive. There are 408 seats.
