The Siemens Transportation Systems Group has won a large order from Belgium to equip 4,000 signals with components for the Belgian train control system TBL1+ and for the European Train Control System ETCS (Level 1). The order is worth 105 million euros and, in addition to the components, also includes project planning and installation services and also a 20-year maintenance contract. The contracting party is the Belgian rail infrastructure operator Infrabel. This is the biggest order Siemens has ever received for ETCS components.
“This order underlines the technical capability and the success of our ETCS solutions,” emphasized Andreas Busemann, head of the Rail Automation Division at TS. For the Belgian project Siemens is to supply lineside electronic units with serial interface as well as air-gap programmable ETCS balises.
