Siemens Dispolok GmbH has sold five ES64F4 multi-system locomotives to Rail Traction Company (RTC), the private Italian railway company. These are the five locomotives (ES64F4 001 to ES64F4 005) which RTC had rented from Siemens Dispolok for two years. At the same time, RTC has also rented three more ES64F4 locomotives from Siemens Dispolok. The maintenance work for these newly sold locomotives will continue to be carried out by Dispolok.
“The purchase of the units already in use and this new rental contract are proof of our customer’s satisfaction with the service our company provides,” emphasized Dr. Walter Breinl, technical director of Siemens Dispolok GmbH. “The Siemens locomotives have proven their worth in day to day operations, thus ensuring the quality of our transport services,” declared Giuseppe Sciarrone, managing director of RTC, at the contract signing ceremony.
In conjunction with the German rail operator “Lokomotion – Gesellschaft für Schienentraktion”, RTC has been using the Siemens locomotives for its cross-border operations on the Verona–Munich route since 2005. The multi-system capability of these units eliminates the need for time-consuming locomotive changing on the Brenner route at the border between Italy and Austria. Acting as partners, RTC and Lokomotion have succeeded in persuading customers to transfer a significant amount of freight traffic from road to rail. Half the intermodal traffic over the Brenner Pass is handled by these two companies.
