Algerian State Railways (SNTF = Société Nationale des Transports Ferroviaires) have placed an order with Siemens for the supply and installation of safety and telecommunications systems for the Tebessa–Ain M’Lila and Gue de Constantine–Oued Smar railway lines. The order will be filled on the basis of a consortium with the Algerian company ESTEL RA s.p.a. and is worth 43.5 million euros.
The new Tebessa–Ain M’Lila line is 204 kilometers long and calls for the supply of 17 relay interlockings with electronic user interface as well as telecommunications systems. The section of line between Gue de Constantine and Oued Smar is eight kilometers long and bypasses Algiers. On this part of the route, Siemens will re-equip two railway stations and also install a new block post for controlling signals. The two projects are part of a five-year plan to revive Algeria’s railway industry.
