I am in my 10. Semester (5th year) of my industrial engineering degree course at the TU Braunschweig.
The technical bias of my degree is on railroads and traffic safety and this resulted in me establishing links with Siemens Transportation Systems early on in my degree.
During my internship at Siemens TS, I have come into contact with many aspects of work and therefore have gained a good overall overview of the work at Siemens TS. As I have progressed in my studies, my responsibilities have also been enlarged.
In the first position I held, I supported the assistants of the TS Managing Board. I got to see what the work of the Managing Board entails and was even involved in some projects.
I was, among other things, responsible for looking after a patent proposal. I also assisted with the foundation of the Rail Automation Academy which has been coordinating initial and further training activities at the Braunschweig location for two years now.
Since the beginning of 2004, I have helped to draw up an international concept for in-house training at the Rail Automation Academy. The emphasis of my work currently is planning and working out the future training strategy for China.
I have always seen the work for Siemens parallel to my studies as an extension and enrichment to the theoretical knowledge gained at the university.
During my work at Siemens TS, I have not only gained practical experience but also learned a lot about operations control and safety technology. I have learned a lot along the way, knowledge that will help me in my studies and career.
Insights into the way a company works have influenced the way I work and will make my initiation into working life that much easier.
