Locomotives drive everything Within Germany, Munich boasts one of the longest traditions of locomotive construction. Since 1908, Siemens has been cooperating with the Munich-based firm Maffei AG on the construction of electric locomotives, since 1909 they have also been working with local rivals Krauss. In 1931 both companies merged together to form “Lokomotivfabrik Krauss & Comp. – J.A. Maffei AG”. The name was changed to Siemens Krauss-Maffei Lokomotiven GmbH in 1999 and in 2001 the firm was assimilated into Siemens AG.

Important historical dates for the Munich location The production of locomotives at Maffei and Krauss was one of the engines of industrialization in Bavaria in the 19th century. And in addition to all this, many important developments were initiated here. For example, Krauss-Maffei was a consortium member on the development of the Transrapid. And with the locomotive families, the Eurosprinter and Eurorunner, product platforms were constructed here that are currently enjoying huge success across Europe.
